our story

By God’s grace, I got to marry the man of my dreams May 30th, 2009.  It was a glorious day filled with much joy and celebration with major dancing, as we made a covenant of marriage before God and our precious family and friends.   This picture above was right after I got to kiss Mark for the first time at the alter!  We had an awesome honeymoon in Florida going to the beach and Disney World!

The Thursday before we got married we bought a fixer-upper home in the downtown area just blocks from our church.  With great endurance and much needed help from our family and friends, we were able to do a lot of sweet updates to it and make this 100 year old house, a home.  This is our sweet first home and we loved it!  Though it was on a busy street and loud, there were lots of Gospel opportunities with our neighbors.

 A month after we got married, we got pregnant to our surprise!  Our big girl-M, came exactly 10 months later from our wedding date-March 30th!  Major sanctification was needed and to our surprise it was through renovating an old home while being pregnant newlyweds!  We sure felt much growth pains, but the Lord continued to remain faithful and provide.  Even blessing us with this precious baby girl!

Okay, so that was a lot of details…moving right along! I’m a girl, so it takes a little longer to explain! ha! :)

We enjoyed our first couple of years learning a lot about growing up in the Lord and what it means to be married with a baby!  The Lord was blessing Mark with work and he received 4 promotions (about 1 a year) since I had met him!  So proud of him!  He is such a hard worker and eager to provide for our family and be a blessing to those around us.  I was blessed to stay home with our little girl M.

In the meantime (May 2010), the Lord provided a way for me to finish my Master’s degree in Biblical Counseling at Southern Baptist Theological Season (the reason why I moved to Kentucky back in 2007).  Through the help of my in-laws watching our little baby M and the support from my parents and sweet husband, I was able to complete this degree!  And, ever since the Lord has used this degree in gaining more understanding of what is the Gospel of Jesus.  And how desperately I need Him to rescue me and make me more like His Son.  In some ways, this degree really was served by God to give me great ‘counsel’ and I believe to prepare me Biblically for the suffering that was to come.

Soon enough we were desiring for the Lord to grow our family again.  Instead His plan was for more growing pains in a sorrowful way…we loss 2 precious babies, both times within 5 to 6 weeks of being pregnant.  It was a harder season for me spiritually and learned a lot of the Lord’s sovereignty, love, and wisdom.

In the Lord’s great kindness, He led us to persue adoption through fostering a precious baby boy!  We have had him since he was 5 weeks old.  We met him in the hosptial on Febuary 28th, 2012.  I will never forget getting the phone call that there was beautiful baby boy needing a family.   It was love at first sight and we consider this little guy a sign of the Lord’s answered prayer in our desire for our family to grow.  Almost 2 years later, we are very close, I mean Super close to adopting this little guy!  Our prayer is that he would be an official Gronotte by the end of this year.  For the Lord knows that since day one of meeting him, he has already been ours in our heart.   Waiting on the Lord through fostering has been another means of grace to grow our faith in trusting the Lord’s kind hand.  When he is officially ours, I will post up close pictures of him.  :) For now we have to wait a couple more months, Lord willing!  Let me just say this. He is such a cutie and has such a soft and tender heart.  He is another kind blessing from the Lord.

If you have made it this far in reading.  Congrats! :)  I am almost finished catching you up to current.

To our shock and the Lord’s perfect timing, we were able to become pregnant to our baby boy O.   Super surprised by the Lord’s timing that it was just 2 months after receiving our little foster son.  This making these little boys only 13 months apart!   Those months were crazy and busy with 2 little ones and dealing with pregnancy.  Though all the while seeing these were all answered prayers from the Lord.  Truly, He has been gracious to us.  Here’s a pic of us 5 (baby in my belly!)

Mark was led by the Lord that we needed to move out of our current home into a neighborhood a little less busy and perhaps even closer to his parents.  The Lord answered this prayer request.  We officially sold our first home Dec.3, 2012.  We were so grateful, selling a home is no joke and hard to do in our part of town!  Again, we know it was from the Lord.  He also provided just the right home for us.  Just minutes away from his parents.  We thought we were moving closer to His parents so that in the future we would be able to serve them better in elderly years.  However, once again the Lord saw it to be a kindness in how Greatly they have served us before and even after Mark learning of his cancer!  It truly has been such a grace to have them so close!  Oh and how their 3 grandbabies LOVE their Grandpa & Grammy that are just minutes away!  (for a shout out to my parents in Texas-they LOVE their Poppy & Nana too!) :)

All along this process of getting the home ready to sell, of selling it and finding a new home; my poor husband was not feeling so well.  We thought it was due to stress of baby#3 coming and moving.  He began having head aches that turned into not being able to sleep well at night to poor vision and even poor reading and short-term memory was difficult.  Things that we could not explain or understand at the time.  We thought, well if we just get moved in and make it to Christmas in Texas with family, we will be okay and can finally rest.  We drove to Texas to see my side of the family all while Mark was not feeling so well.  He refused to let me drive the 16 hour drive because I was 8 months pregnant.  We made it safely and enjoyed sweet time of fellowship celebrating our Savior’s birth!  Though the drive home from Texas was super challenging and can we say more growing pains were approaching fast!  From kids puking in the car to Mark not being able to read the signs super well on the road to crazy road construction and having to stop at a hotel last minute to not get great sleep for the next long day of driving.  All I can say is that my husband is a soldier.  He kept going by God’s grace and got us home to our new home, safely.

We got home on December 28th and Mark decided to go to the eye doctor’s the next day, Dec. 29th to see why his vision was changed and even seeing double at times.   I stayed with the kids and Mark’s dad drove him to our eye dr.  She was very good and took a close exam of his eyes and Mark said she took a long time even trying to see what was going on.  Meanwhile, at home while doing the dishes I was pleading with the Lord to make known why my Marky was struggling to see and read and felt so poorly.  The Lord was gracious and brought Habakkuk 3:17-19 to my mind and I began pouring out to the Lord for answers and help and faith!

17 “Though the fig tree should not blossom,

nor fruit be on the vines,

the produce of the olive fail

and the fields yield no food,

the flock be cut off from the fold

and there be no herd in the stalls,

18 yet I will rejoice in the Lord;

I will take joy in the God of my salvation.

19 God, the Lord, is my strength;

he makes my feet like the deer’s;

he makes me tread on my high places.”
